How many of you remember the old radio shows? For example, Garrison Keiller and his shoe Lake Wobegon, or Paul Harvey’s “The Rest of the Story? You do not hear those kinds of things on the radio so much anymore. Fear, not my story-loving fans because as some of you may or may not know there are still grand storytellers out there!
YouTube is probably the best place to find these amazing narrators! I was not aware they even existed until about two years ago. One night I was bored at work and was on YouTube. I typed in supernatural stories or something to that effect. I was looking for videos about the paranormal. That is when I stumbled across Let’s Read’s channel. I clicked on his latest video and I have been hooked ever since!
After listening to every video he had uploaded I started looking for other channels like his. I was blown away at the sheer number of creators out there with these kinds of channels. Some are amazing and others not so much. I will not go into who is and who isn’t because it is all a matter of opinion and taste there. The point is that if you like scary, spooky, or strange stories there are plenty of narrators with channels you can subscribe to! I know I subscribe to 355 channels myself!
YouTube offers a platform for those who are creative, ambitious, and self-motivated enough to create and maintain their own channels! Many of these entrepreneurs are not only finding an audience for their style of storytelling but they are able to make a living doing what they love!
Slumber Reads is a great example of a YouTube creator/Narrator that is doing phenomenally! He has the voice and personality that draws folks in like bees to pollen! He also writes many of his own stories, so he is multi-talented. Lady Spookaria is another channel that is growing rather quickly. I am a fairly new subscriber to her channel but I love it! Like Slumber she has that "IT" factor that draws listeners in. Swamp Dweller is yet another narrator that has that magical gift to draw folks in and keep them tuned in. He has two channels in fact! They are listed below.
Most of the YouTube creators I have met are between 19 and 30 years old. I am in my late 40’s and work 12.5-hour shifts in a hospital. Don’t get me wrong I love my job but had I this opportunity been around 20 years ago I would have probably been doing that.
Over the last few years and even recently I have become friends with many of these amazing narrators! One of them was cool enough to narrate one of my books for me. Each one is unique in his or her own way. Many are from other countries and so you get to hear horror stories from all over the globe! I love that! Anyway here is a list of some of my favorites you can check out. I can’t list them all of course and they are in no particular order.
